Technique Squad Blog Hop – Gilded Leafing

I think I’ve only used my gilded leafing once before this time. It’s really shiny but gets everywhere, kind of like glitter, so be prepared. When you first open the container of leafing, make sure you have a bigger container to hold it because it’s not going back in the tiny container. 🙂

  1. I cut a piece of basic white cardstock to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and scored it at 4 1/4″.
  2. I used the background die from the Two-Tone Flora die set and die cut one side of the cardstock. This die requires a few passes through the machine to get all of the intricate pieces cut.
  3. Next I cut a piece of adhesive sheet to put on the inside on the side I didn’t die cut, removed the backing paper, then I closed along the scored line.
  4. So now I have a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ panel and adhesive in all of the openings of the die cut. I put this on a scrap piece of paper and start rubbing the gilded leafing all over it with my fingers. I also pulled out an old stencil brush to get it into all the tiny holes.
  5. I cut the panel to be more like 4 1/8″ x 5 1/2″ to center the die cut and put it on a piece of 4 1/4″ x ~5 3/4″ Cherry Cobbler cardbase. (I put the piece on the cardbase and cut the bottom to have a more even border.

For the sentiment, I stamped using Versamark ink, sprinkled some Heat & Stick powder on it, used my heat tool to activate the stickyness, then rubbed the gilded leafing over it with my finger. This way the golds match.

Technique Squad Blog Hop – Faux Patina

I LOVE this technique! This is another technique I haven’t tried before but I adore how it came out. I watched a few videos on this technique but my favorite was from Heather Cooper.

I started by inking the Quatrefoil Tile embossing folder with Crumb Cake ink using a brayer for one piece of Very Vanilla and straight with the stamp pad with another piece. I liked the evenness of the brayer piece so I used that as my starting point.

Next I used a blending brush and Soft Succulent ink to unevenly cover the background then I added Evening Evergreen the same way in fewer places. (Of Course I didn’t take photos of these steps.)

After that, I lightly dabbed my Versamark ink pad over the paper and used copper embossing powder. I brushed off some of the embossing powder to make it uneven and not show the stamp pad edges.

After embossing, I added a bit more colored ink then more versamark and copper embossing powder until I liked how it looked.

For the second card, I started with just an emobssed piece of Very Vanilla and no Crumb Cake ink. I was a bit more heavy handed with the ink and embossing powder but I like it too.

I still have the other inked and embossed piece of cardstock so I get to do this again. 🙂

FYI – I used liquid glue on my Stampin’ Dimensionals because nothing wants to stick to the embossing powder.

Technique Squad Blog Hop – Exploding Card

This month we are featuring the Exploding Card Technique. I watched videos from Mixed Up Craft, Annie’s Crafts, and Creating with Kristina. None of the videos were exactly what I wanted so I extrapolated and created my own. I wanted one that had all the layers of Mixed Up Craft but easy to modify like Annie’s Crafts.

My cardbase is 4 1/2″ x 10 7/8″ scored at 5 3/8″ and 5 1/2″. The explosion paper needs to be the length of the cardbase minus the 1/8″ score so it’s 10 3/4″ square. (In case you want to create your own in a different size.

Butterfly Brilliance Class Card

Today marks the start of the new 2022-2023 Annual Catalog! Click on the Stampin’ Up! logo to the right to start shopping.

This card I created for my class last Saturday was inspired by a card I did a while ago. It’s a similar layout but I think it looks completely different.

Measurements:

Basic White Thick cardstock5 ½” x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼” (cardbase) 3 ¼” x 5 ½”, 2” x 2 ¾”
Polished Pink cardstock2” x 2 ¾”
New Horizons 6”x6” Designer Series Paper (DSP)2” x 5 ½”

Instructions:

  1. Using Polished Pink, stamp the sentiment on the 2” x 2 ¾” piece of Basic White Thick cardstock, die cut using a Stitched Rectangle die.
  2. Using the cloud border die, cut the 3 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of Basic White Thick cardstock lining up the edges at about 1 ¼” from the bottom.  (Make sure the clouds are the way you want them.)  Emboss the cut pieces.
  3. Die cut the butterfly from the Polished Pink cardstock, cover with Clear Wink of Stella.
  4. Stamp the butterfly on the inside of the cardbase, fold in half.  Adhere the piece of DSP about ¾” from the bottom.
  5. Add dimensionals to the die cut cloud pieces, use a tiny amount of liquid glue to the dimensionals and add to the front of the cardbase.  (The liquid glue will give you some wiggle room to line up the pieces.)
  6. Fold the 2 ½” piece of ribbon and adhere behind the sentiment rectangle.  You may want to use glue dots for this.  Add to the cardbase using liquid glue.
  7. Add a few dots of liquid glue to the middle back of the butterfly and adhere on the patterned paper as shown.
This is the card that inspired me.

Supplies:
Stamp Sets – Butterfly Brilliance, Celebrating You
Die Cutting & Embossing – Basic Borders dies, Brilliant Wings dies, Stitched Rectangle dies, Timeworn Type 3D embossing folder
Ink – Polished Pink stamp pad
Paper – New Horizons 6″x6″ Designer Series Paper, Basic White Thick cardstock, Polished Pink cardstock

Coloring Tools – Clear Wink of Stella
Tools – Paper Trimmer, Simply Scored, Bone Folder, Stamparatus, Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine
Adhesive – Stampin’ SEAL, Stampin’ Dimensionals, liquid glue, mini glue dots

Technique Squad Blog Hop – Paper Piecing

Today’s theme for the Technique Squad Blog Hop is Paper Piecing. I haven’t done this in a while because, frankly, I don’t like to fussy cut but I really like how this turned out. It’s a bonus that I like it because this is the only current stamp set I have that I could see working with paper piecing.

I started by stamping the woman on a piece of white cardstock, then I stamped on a post-it note and cut it out to create a mask. (You may not want to include the empty part of the wine glass on the mask, ask me how I know.) Using the blending brushes, I colored the background in Balmy Blue, Pool Party, and Night of Navy. (I wish I’d picked out my background paper before inking so I could match it but my idea was that far along when I started.)

Her arms are colored with the Ivory Stampin’ Blend and the wine with light Pale Papaya (the top is with light Balmy Blue and this is why you don’t want to include it in your mask).

For the hat and dress, I stamped the image on a piece of patterned paper, fussy cut the hat and dress, then used liquid glue to add them to my colored image.

January Birthday Cards

This month I used the January Sheetload of Cards (which is also Mojo Monday sketch 538) for my birthday and anniversary cards. I did change it up a little to use a stitched scalloped rectangle instead of the square, it looked better with my image.

I stamped the flower image from the Blessings of Home stamp set and colored it in using my Blender pens. I like how soft the image is when I dip my Blender pen in my stamp pads and color with it. For most of the cards, the side to side panel is 1 1/2 inches up from the bottom, apparently on one of them it’s less.

Supplies:
Stamp Sets – Blessings of Home, Art Gallery, Celebrating You
Die Cutting & Embossing – Flowers of Home dies, Stitched So Sweetly dies
Ink – Garden Green stamp pad, Pale Papaya stamp pad, Memento Tuxedo Black stamp pad
Paper – Heart & Home Designer Series Paper, Basic White Thick cardstock, Basic Gray Cardstock
Coloring Tools – Blender pens
Tools – Paper Trimmer, Simply Scored, Stamparatus, Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine
