Today I’m playing with a sketch from the BYSH Cardmakers blog, the intention of the challenges is Christmas cards but I’m not doing that today. I really hope that Evening Evergreen and Soft Succulent are included in the upcoming Stampin’ Up! color refresh because I’m going to miss them otherwise.
I’m pushing myself to use the Fancy Flora patterned paper. The patterns on this paper are more random and unstructured than I would normally chose but I really love some of the color combinations. You can’t see it in the photos, but the detailed butterfly is covered with Wink of Stella.

I LOVE this technique! This is another technique I haven’t tried before but I adore how it came out. I watched a few videos on this technique but my favorite was from Heather Cooper.
I started by inking the Quatrefoil Tile embossing folder with Crumb Cake ink using a brayer for one piece of Very Vanilla and straight with the stamp pad with another piece. I liked the evenness of the brayer piece so I used that as my starting point.
Next I used a blending brush and Soft Succulent ink to unevenly cover the background then I added Evening Evergreen the same way in fewer places. (Of Course I didn’t take photos of these steps.)
After that, I lightly dabbed my Versamark ink pad over the paper and used copper embossing powder. I brushed off some of the embossing powder to make it uneven and not show the stamp pad edges.
After embossing, I added a bit more colored ink then more versamark and copper embossing powder until I liked how it looked.
For the second card, I started with just an emobssed piece of Very Vanilla and no Crumb Cake ink. I was a bit more heavy handed with the ink and embossing powder but I like it too.
I still have the other inked and embossed piece of cardstock so I get to do this again. 🙂
FYI – I used liquid glue on my Stampin’ Dimensionals because nothing wants to stick to the embossing powder.
I was inspired to make this card by Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge 484. The paper was sitting on my table and the birds were so pretty, I just wanted to feature them. The glitter strip was actually sitting on the side of my craft table waiting to be used.

Today we are creating Magic Slider cards. I followed a tutorial by Luvin’ Stampin’ as a starting point for today’s card. I made a slightly different version of this type of card a few years ago using butterflies.
I started with a piece of Basic White Thick cardstock that is 3 7/8″ x 10 1/2″, scored at 5 1/4″. Next I used a rectangle die to create an opening. (I used 3 7/8″ because the rectangle die works better with it.)
The Stamparatus makes this so much easier to do. I attached a piece of 3 1/2″ x 5″ Window Sheet behind the opening using Tear & Tape. The image on the white is stamped using Memento ink so I could color it in with alcohol markers.
Next I folded the white cardstock and used Stazon black ink to stamp on the window sheet.
Make sure you check if your markers are too dry before coloring in the image. 🙂
Next I used a craft knife to cut a slit of my 3″ x 5″ piece of white cardstock that will hide the colored image. You don’t want it too wide or the slider will come out.
I put 3 strips of white cardstock, 1/4″ wide each, on the edges and bottom using liquid glue. There are also two 1/4″ strips at the bottom of the slider piece to keep it from being pulled out. Now put tear & tape over this strips making sure not to have any excess adhesive touch the slider. Since the tear & tape is wider that 1/4″, I put the excess on the outsides and rolled it over toward the inside. Now close it.
I didn’t like the white only look so I cut the same rectangle out of a piece of slightly larger patterned paper, glued it on, and used scissors to cut off the excess around the edges.
I think the uneven and color changed background kind of looks like marbling. 🙂
