It’s Not A Card

Today I’m sharing a couple of boxes that I’ve made. My daughter wanted me to create a big fancy box that she can give to a swim teammate so I immediately went to Mixed Up Craft to see what I could make quickly. She chose the Barrel Topped Acetage Gift Bag (and one other but I have yet to make that one).

The bag is really easy to make but I did change a few things. First I decided to use cardstock instead of acetate because a) cardstock is easier, b) much of the acetate was covered to hide the adhesive, and c) I’m down to one Window Sheet. Second after making my first bag, I decided that it does need a score line for the lid to open well. The blue bag doesn’t have a score line because of this, the top was pulling away when opened. I added a strip of adhesive to keep it attached but the score line on the white bag works so much better. Also for the second bag, I layered the top before attaching it to the bag. The 5 1/8″ x 12″ cardstock is scored at 3″ and 5″, the patterned paper at 1 7/8″.

I used Velcro dots to keep the bag closed this is causing my gray layer to bend when I seperate them. For the second bag I layered up three circles on the front to prevent this from happening.

Technique Squad May Blog Hop – Faux Suede

This month’s technique is Faux Suede. Seriously, I don’t know how Nicole keeps finding fun techniques I’ve never tried before, but she does.

For this technique, you curl your paper with your bone folder until you can separate the layers of the cardstock. I used Soft Suede cardstock for my faux suede because, well, it’s Soft Suede. 🙂

After pulling apart the layers, I tore a little off the bottom and then used a blending brush to add some Early Espresso ink to show off the texture. I even pulled out my new pastels to color the image. I was going for a distressed kind of look since it went with the faux suede, in my opinion.

Nature’s Beauty Class Card

This is the second card we created in my last Cookies & Cards class.  I wanted to make a more masculine and fall card and I found a card by Mary Deatherage that inspired me with the pretty color combination of Cajun Craze, Early Espresso, and Pretty Peacock.

Measurements:

Early Espresso	5 ½” x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼; 2 ½” x 3 ½”
Very Vanilla Cardstock	4” x 5 ¼”, 2 ½” x 3 ½”
Pretty Peacock Cardstock	1 ½” x 5 ½”
Cajun Craze Cardstock	1 ½” x 5 ½”
Copper Foil Cardstock	1” x 5 ¼”
Pressed Petals Designer Series Paper (DSP)	4” x 5 ¼”

Instructions:

1. Wipe small Very Vanilla Cardstock piece with embossing buddy. Using Versamark ink, stamp deer.  Cover with copper embossing powder and use heat tool to melt.  Die cut using oval.  Die cut small Early Espresso piece using scalloped oval.
2. Using Staz On ink, stamp “Birthday Wishes” on Copper Foil Cardstock.
3. Using Banner Triple punch, punch the RIGHT ends of Copper Foil, Cajun Craze, and Pretty Peacock cardstock.
4. Using Woodland Embossing Folder, emboss Cajun Craze and Pretty Peacock cardstock.
5. Adhere banners to DSP. Adhere DSP to cardbase.  Adhere deer oval to Early Espresso scalloped oval.  Adhere deer to cardbase using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
6. Scatter some metallic pearls on the card.

Nature’s Beauty Mojo Bunny

I love the Nature’s Beauty stamp set located in the back of the Holiday Catalog.  Not only does it support mental health but it’s a beautiful set.  Apparently I’ve been in a monochromatic mood this week because neither card this week have been exactly colorful.
