Technique Squad Blog Hop – Pull Tab

This month’s technique is the Pull Tab. I watched a Jennifer McGuire’s video on this but since I didn’t have the die set she used, I made my own way to do it. I ended up making two cards because I was sad the dragonfly’s wings were hidden behind the hill and because I came up with an idea on hiding a gnome behind the mushroom house.

Now, head over and see what Carole Garrison came up with.

Supplies:
Stamp Sets – February 2017 Paper Pumpkin (for the PULL), Art Gallery, Dragonfly Garden, Happy Hedgehogs, Kindest Gnomes,
Die Cutting & Embossing – Basic Borders, Floral Gallery, Gnomes, & Stitched Rectangles dies
Punches – Dragonflies punch
Ink – Balmy Blue, Garden Green, Pacific Point, & Memento Tuxedo Black stamp pads
Paper – Storybook Gnomes Designer Series Paper; Basic White Thick & Balmy Blue cardstock; Window Sheets
Accents & Embellishments – Fine Sparkle Adhesive-Backed Gems
Coloring Tools – Blending Brushes, clear Wink of Stella
Tools – Paper Trimmer, Simply Scored, Bone Folder, Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, Take Your Pick, Paper Snips
Adhesive – Stampin’ SEAL, mini Stampin’ Dimensionals, liquid glue

It’s Not A Card

Today I’m sharing a couple of boxes that I’ve made. My daughter wanted me to create a big fancy box that she can give to a swim teammate so I immediately went to Mixed Up Craft to see what I could make quickly. She chose the Barrel Topped Acetage Gift Bag (and one other but I have yet to make that one).

The bag is really easy to make but I did change a few things. First I decided to use cardstock instead of acetate because a) cardstock is easier, b) much of the acetate was covered to hide the adhesive, and c) I’m down to one Window Sheet. Second after making my first bag, I decided that it does need a score line for the lid to open well. The blue bag doesn’t have a score line because of this, the top was pulling away when opened. I added a strip of adhesive to keep it attached but the score line on the white bag works so much better. Also for the second bag, I layered the top before attaching it to the bag. The 5 1/8″ x 12″ cardstock is scored at 3″ and 5″, the patterned paper at 1 7/8″.

I used Velcro dots to keep the bag closed this is causing my gray layer to bend when I seperate them. For the second bag I layered up three circles on the front to prevent this from happening.

Say Goodbye to the Dandy Garden DSP

Today the sale starts for product retiring from the January – June 2021 mini catalog. I don’t have many products that didn’t carry over into the new annual catalog so I’m just going to feature the Dandy Garden Designer Series Paper today. The Dragonfly Garden stamp set and Dragonflies punch are staying.

I punched out two additional dragonflies from Mossy Meadow cardstock and glued them behind the one I punched out of the patterned paper.

I used sketch #123 from the old Operation Write Home sketches.

Supplies:
Stamp Sets – Dragonfly Garden
Die Cutting & Embossing – Stitched Rectangle dies
Punches – Dragonflies punch
Ink – Mossy Meadow stamp pad
Paper – Dandy Garden 6″x6″ Designer Series Paper, Mossy Meadow cardstock, Basic White cardstock
Tools – Paper Trimmer, Simply Scored, Stamparatus, Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine
Adhesive – Stampin’ SEAL, liquid glue

Dragonfly Garden Surprise Gatefold Card

I knew I needed to make this style card when I saw it twice in one day from different sources. I mostly followed the directions from Jennifer McGuire but I decided to put the attached piece behind my patterned paper instead of on top of it.

I gave these cards and a small gift to the members of my team that went to Stampin’ Up!’s OnTour “gathering”. We did a zoom call with a few hundred demonstrators to learn more about Stampin’ Up! and share ideas.

The cardstock attaching the circles to the card are 1″ wide and scored down the middle. I just used scraps and didn’t measure the length, it just needs to be less than the attached circle.

Supplies:
Stamp Sets – Dragonfly Garden
Die Cutting & Embossing – Layering Circles dies
Ink – Blackberry Bliss stamp pad, Mossy Meadow stamp pad, Rich Razzleberry stamp pad
Paper – Dandy Garden 6″x6″ designer series paper, Blackberry Bliss cardstock, Basic White Thick cardstock, Basic White cardstock
Coloring Tools – Early Espresso watercolor pencil, Old Olive watercolor pencil, Rich Razzleberry watercolor pencil , Clear Wink of Stella
Tools – Paper Trimmer, Simply Scored, Stamparatus, Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine
Adhesive – Stampin’ SEAL, liquid glue

Butterfly Brilliance Swap Card

I joined in a swap for the new Butterfly Brilliance bundle and the limited time only paper (Butterfly Bijou 6″ x 6″ designer series paper and Natural Touch Specialty paper).

Not only do I have the butterfly swap in this post but I have two others to show how the same layout can be made no mater what you have. One of them is even masculine.

The squares are 1 1/2″ and the mat is 1 5/8″ with alternate corners rounded.

I sprayed Frost White Shimmer Paint mixed with rubbing alcohol on both layers of the butterfly but you can’t really see it in my photos.

The dragonfly was stamped on vellum cardstock using Mossy Meadow and then embossed using clear embossing powder. It works on vellum because the dye ink doesn’t dry quickly, if at all.

My photo also doesn’t show how the gold embossing is shiny on the globe and base as well as the brass in the goldish paper.

Supplies:
Stamp Sets – A Little Lace, Beautiful World, Butterfly Brilliance, Dragonfly Garden
Die Cutting & Embossing – Brilliant Wings dies, World Map dies
Punches – Dragonflies punch, Detailed Trio punch
Ink – Misty Moonlight stamp pad, Mossy Meadow stamp pad, Versamark stamp pad
Paper – Butterfly Bijou 6″x6″ designer series paper, Dandy Garden 6″x6″ designer series paper, World of Good Specialty designer series paper, Basic Black cardstock, Basic White Thick cardstock, Misty Moonlight cardstock, Vellum cardstock
Accents & Embellishments – 2020 – 2022 In Color enamel dots, Rhinestone Basic Jewels
Coloring Tools – Clear embossing powder, Gold embossing powder, Frost White Shimmer paint, Stampin’ Spritzer
Tools – Paper Trimmer, Simply Scored, Stamparatus, Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, Take Your Pick
Adhesive – Stampin’ SEAL, Stampin’ Dimensionals, liquid glue

Technique Blog Hop – Blending Brushes

This month’s technique is to use blending brushes. I LOVE blending brushes. You know I’ve been using them since before Stampin’ Up! started carrying them so I’m really excited they’ve joined in on the fun. I decided to do a silhouette at sunset for my ink blending. I don’t have any current silhouette stamps so I colored mine in using my Basic Black dark Stampin’ Blends marker

For the inking, I started by die cutting a circle out of a post-it note for the sun and putting it on a piece of Whisper White cardstock (I haven’t gotten my Basic White yet and I have a lot of Whisper White cardstock.) I inked in a circle around the “sun” using Daffodil Delight. I then used Poppy Parade for the outside. Wow, reds are harder to blend. 🙂 I had a hard time leaving enough of the Daffodil Delight behind so you may want to go a little lighter on the Poppy Parade than I did. 🙂

I used gold embossing powder on vellum for the dragonfly and then I inked it with the blending brush and Bermuda Bay to give it a little color. I think this card would look even better if I spritz it with shimmer paint…hmmm… Yep, I like it better with shimmer paint.

Post-it note to mask off the sun
