Enjoy the Journey

I pulled out a sheet of my new Enjoy the Journey paper pack and made these various cards from it.

I started by cutting my paper into six different card fronts. The rectangles are 4″ x 5 1/4″.

My first card is just stamps, ink, and paper. I let the pretty paper do all the work for me.

For the second set of cards, I added clouds, trees, and what is supposed to be stars but they are looking more like snow. 🙂 I also added heat embossing for the sentiments and stars.

For my final cards, I die cut the sentiment label, punch a hole in each side, and threaded some linen thread through. To add support for the linen thread, I glued the patterned paper to a piece of thick white cardstock.

Supplies:
Stamp Sets – Art Gallery, Beauty of Friendship, Friends are like Seashells, Mountain Air, Shaded Summer
Die Cutting & Embossing – Majestic Mountain, & Something Fancy dies
Ink – Coastal Cabana, Garden Green, Smoky Slate, Starry Sky, & Versamark stamp pads
Paper –Basic White, Basic White Thick, Coastal Cabana, Highland Heather, & Starry Sky cardstock; Enjoy the Journey 12″x12″ Designer Series Paper

Coloring Tools – White embossing powder

Technique Squad Blog Hop – Black Ice

To be honest, before this card I’d never tried the Black Ice technique and I wasn’t exactly sure what it was. So, I watched a few videos (the Splitcoast Stampers one being my favorite) and came up with this.

For this technique, you need black Stazon, Versamark, and clear embossing powder.

  • I started by die cutting a piece of silver foil using a stitched rectangle die then I used adhesive tape to put it on a piece of cheap cardstock.
  • Swipe your Stazon ink pad over the foil trying to add a dark amount at the top and bottom. I rotated my paper to get this look
  • Next stamp your focal image on the foil using Stazon. I used my Stamparatus for this to try and get the image fully black.
  • DRY the Stazon using your heat tool on the low setting, you don’t want your Versamark to pick up the black ink. Even though it’s Stazon, it takes a little time to dry on a non-porous surface.
  • Now you LIGHTLY drag your Versamark ink pad over your image. You don’t want to completely cover the image, instead you want some of the plain foil to show through.
  • Cover the Versamark with clear embossing powder and heat.

In these next images, you can see the difference between before and after the Versamark and embossing steps.

I did a video again! Two in one month, don’t get to used to it. 🙂

My layout came from the TGIF Challenges!

Celebrate Sparkle

There is a lot of shine on this card. I decided to use some of the specialty paper I bought from the July-December mini catalog since I haven’t used much of it. I didn’t just use the Metallic & Shimmer paper, no I added the Glimmer paper. Then not only did I use two sparkly papers but I heat embossed the image and sentiment. You may need sunglasses for this card. I thought about adding gems but decided that was one step too far. 🙂

Supplies:
Stamp Sets – Framed Florets, Shaded Summer
Die Cutting & Embossing – Layering Circles & Summer Shadowsdies
Punches – Banners pick-a-punch
Ink – Versamark stamp pad
Paper – Metallic & Shimmer 6×6 Specialty Paper, Glimmer Specialty Paper, Basic Black cardstock, Crumb Cake cardstock
Coloring Tools – Silver & White embossing powder
Tools – Paper Trimmer, Simply Scored, Bone Folder, Stamparatus, Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, Heat tool

Happy Birthday to my Hubby

I like to do fun folds for my family birthdays so I viewed a few that Susan Campfield did recently and I picked this tuck fold one(Facebook Live Video). I’m not sure what this fun fold is called but I switched which side the tuck was on because I wanted it on the right.

The card base is 5 1/2″ x 7″, scored at 1 3/8″ from each side. The Smoky Slate piece in the back is 2 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. The patterned paper is 1 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. For the Mossy Meadow cardbase, I scored then folded on the score lines before embossing it with the Twigs & Sprigs embossing folder. If you emboss the whole card, you may want to stamp/write on the insert before attaching. For the die cuts, I lightly dragged my Whisper White stamp pad over the embossing.

(I need to put a post-it note up somewhere to remind me to use gems and ribbon, I don’t remember until I’m writing up the post.)

Supplies:
Stamp Sets – Shaded Summer
Die Cutting & Embossing – Twigs & Sprigs Hybrid dies and embossing folder, Stylish Shapes dies
Ink – Mossy Meadow & Whisper White stamp pads
Paper – Happy Forest Friends 12″x12″ Designer Series Paper; Basic White, Basic White Thick, Mossy Meadow, and Smoky Slate cardstock
Tools – Paper Trimmer, Simply Scored, Bone Folder, Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine
Adhesive – Stampin’ SEAL, Stampin’ Dimensionals, liquid glue

Technique Squad Blog Hop

This month’s technique is Creator’s Choice and I chose to do the Whitewash Technique. I saw a card by Lisa Freeman on Facebook and I LOVED IT! I decided that was the technique I wanted to do.

I pulled out my Shaded Summer stamp set to make a background with this technique. (It doesn’t matter that it’s January in Minnesota, I can make a summer card.) I stamped on Magenta Madness cardstock with Magenta Madness ink and then I used my Whisper White ink and a Blender Pen to fill in the flowers. I intended to add some gems to the card but I forgot, I really love how it turned out anyway. The layout was inspired by Inspire.Create.Challenge 108.

First I stamped on Magenta Madness cardstock with Magenta Madness ink.
I colored in the flowers with Whisper White ink using a Blender pen.

Technique Squad July Blog Hop

This month’s theme is alcohol ink techniques. Um…well…this is not my best technique but I tried. I made a card out of the best piece I ended up with. From my experience, vellum works much better than window sheets but that’s the only tip I really have. 🙂 UPDATE: I’ve been informed that a higher percentage would work better, I was using 70%. I will have to try again.

I used the Magenta Madness dark Stampin’ Blend, rubbing alcohol, an old brush, and a can of compressed air to create these. I then added Tombow multipurpose liquid glue (let it dry because it stays sticky) and added Gilded Leaves gold leafing on the glue. I used Tear & Tape to attach the vellum behind the embossed white cardstock and popped it up on dimensionals.
