Technique Squad Blog Hop – Pop-Out Window Card

This month the Technique Squad Blog Hop theme is Pop-Out Window Card (also known as a Lever Card). I made this card once before a few years ago (check it out here) and demonstrated it at an event known as Demos Galore. That card was an offset window and I started my process using my instructions for it. My process resulted in a few different versions and I’m going to show you all of them.

The first card I’m going to show you is actually the last card I made. I wanted to create a video and this one seems the easiest to do that with and it was the one where I laneded on the inside panel dimensions I liked best. The inside is a piece of 5 1/4″ x 6 3/4″ cardstock, scored at 1/2″, 2 5/8″, & 4 3/4″.

The Sea Turtle card is actually the first one I created using the specific directions from my previously mentioned card. Since I no longer have the paper for that card and pretty much everything else I used on that card is retired, I made it using the Sea Turtle stamp set.

I didn’t get my hearts lined up exactly right, so I thought I would use one of the Something Fancy dies and the Two-Tone Flora to make another version. I may have gone overboard with the flowers on the inside. 🙂

For my last “practice” card, I used the inside dimensions from a Jennifer McGuire video but added the 1/2″ on the left for attaching the inside panel. This inside panel is 5 1/4″ x 6 3/8″ scored at 1/2″, 1 1/2″, & 4 1/2″. I wasn’t thrilled that the inside couldn’t lay flat which is how I came up with the inside of the first card I showed.

Pop Out Slider Card

Susan Campfield challenged her team to create different Pop Out Slider cards based on this fun fold she recently shared. Here is my version. For instructions on how to make it you can visit her blog here. I did make a couple of changes. I decided I wanted the pop out feature on the left side of the card so I could easily write on the white panel, and I didn’t put the extra patterned paper around the mechanism.

For the front of my card, I used the November 2020 Sheetload of Cards sketch.

Dainty Flowers

I’m continuing my use of flowers to combat winter but today I’m using the the Dainty Flowers Sale-a-bration paper instead. There is one pattern of the pack that has these oval flowers on it and I made three slightly different cards using the same foundation. Each of my flower oval papers is 3 5/8″ x 4 7/8″ and the layer is 5″ x 3 3/4″. I found cutting the patterned paper at 4 7/8″ left me the most of the middle flower pattern. After the first cut, I cut the strip apart each 4″ and then cut off each side to center the image and make it fit on my card front with a consistent border.

For the first card, all I did was layer the paper and stamp the sentiment using my Stamparatus. (My ink pad was really dry so it took a few tries to get a decent image.) Then I added some of the brass butterflies because I thought it needed a little something.

For the second card, I inked my stamp pad a little too much so my sentiment isn’t so crisp. I wanted to add a sentiment and since the background image is an oval, I pulled out the Framed Florets bundle. I would love Stampin’ Up! to come out with layering ovals again but I settled on inking the edges using a sponge dauber.

My third card is my favorite, I love these cute little gnomes. I stamped him on watercolor paper then colored him using watercolor pencils mixing the color with a blender pen. The gnome and sentiment are backed with Rich Razzleberry cardstock to raise them up and give a slight shadow.

December 2022 Paper Pumpkin Alternates

I don’t normally do alternates for Paper Pumpkin kits. First, because I’m usually months behind. Second, because I like to create them as designed because it’s relaxing. The December kit had loads of pieces and a coordinating pack of cards that I bought so I thought I would create some alternatives. Of course, I had to use some of the Fitting Florets patterned paper because I love it so much. The first two are using the June 2021 Sheetload of Sketches design.

Same Paper, New Sketch

I’m still playing with the same paper from Tuesday but I’m using a new sketch from the Global Design Project. This time I stamped a couple of images and colored them in with my Stampin’ Blends. I’m not very good at shading but I can usually stay in the lines. 🙂

Fitting Florets…Again

I really love this paper so I’m going to keep using it. 🙂 Today I’m playing along with Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #504. I cut the patterned paper to 4″ x 5 1/4″, cut it in half at 2 5/8″, then used liquid glue to attach it to a piece of white cardstock before adding the cardstock strip and putting it on the cardbase.

Celebrate Sparkle

There is a lot of shine on this card. I decided to use some of the specialty paper I bought from the July-December mini catalog since I haven’t used much of it. I didn’t just use the Metallic & Shimmer paper, no I added the Glimmer paper. Then not only did I use two sparkly papers but I heat embossed the image and sentiment. You may need sunglasses for this card. I thought about adding gems but decided that was one step too far. 🙂
