Still Scenes, Day 15

So this is the last post in my snow globe series and it’s got a few cards in it.  At Demos Galore I demonstrated how to make the actual snow globe and I may make a video for that or maybe a new post with lots more pictures.  I learned how to make this from my friend Carole Baumgartner who learned it from a video by Tina Wardell.  The key is using E6000 to attach the snow globe to the window sheet once you’ve added the water and glitter.  Secondly, make sure not to get water and glitter all over your E6000 (ask me how I know this).

The first snow globes I made I used the new Ice glitter…I wouldn’t recommend it for a water globe, it clumps.  I ended up using my 10 year old Dazzling Diamonds glitter and it worked great!  Unfortunately the newer version doesn’t work as great at first but after a few weeks you can’t tell the difference.  The card below is using the new Dazzling Diamonds glitter.  Just make sure you stir your glitter into the water mixture before sealing the globe shut.  Also, you want to use heavier cardstock and multiple layers on the inside so it doesn’t fall over.

I used a 3 1/4″ x 3 1/4″ window sheet behind all of the snow globes and shakers so the glitter and sequins don’t escape.  In addition to that, all of the die cuts that look like they are in the shaker part are actually behind it.

If you don’t want to use water, you can just use glitter and the Ice Stampin’ Glitter is perfect for this.  I will use a little less glitter than I did here on my next one.

Once you are out of snow globe domes, you can make a shaker card.

If you don’t want to make a shaker, who says you need to.  For this card, I die cut the snow globe out of the front of the card and put it on the inside.  In hindsight, I would have put a white layer on the inside so that the snow globe would stand out more.

Steps to recreate the water filled snow globe.

  1.  Find a glass that fits the snow globe, about 2 1/2″ diameter, I used a $0.97 stemless wine glass from Walmart.
  2. Place the snow globe dome on top of the glass with the dome in the glass.  Rub the inside of the snow globe with the embossing buddy.
  3. Remove the adhesive backing on the side facing up and line the outside edge with a line of E6000.  You don’t want any gaps or water will leak out.
  4. Add about 2 tsp of distilled water (I used a children’s medicine dropper).
  5. Add about 4ish drops of glycerin to the water (I got mine in the Hobby Lobby soap aisle).
  6. Add about a 1/4 tsp of glitter and stir it into the water.  It is important that it is mixed with the water.
  7. Fill the dome with more distilled water until it’s almost to the top.
  8. Gently add the window sheet and push down on the rim of the glass.  If there is a large air bubble, gently pull up a corner of the window sheet and squirt in some more distilled water using a dropper.
  9. Set aside to dry for 24 hours.
